Photos in this group include those of "Scripaphyosemion" (formerly called Roloffi) as well as" Chromaphyosemion" (bivitattum and bitaneattum). Aphyosemion typically are slenter, shy fish reaching a size of 11/2 to 2 1/4 inch depending upon species. Males will fight but if raised together will establish an order of dominance avoiding extreme problems if cover is provided. Aphyosemion are primarily mop spawners, usually preferring floating mops but will lay eggs elsewhere if no mop is provided.
Intensity of coloration is lighting dependant as many colors are due to slits
in the scales causing light refraction. This is similar to more typically
seen Beta splendons. This is especially true of those in the Chromaphyosemion
sub group.
